Built to Be the Best – Winnebago Motor Homes

The year was 1958, motorhome and trailer travel were popular ways for families to vacation and sightsee affordably. That same year, Winnebago Industries got their feet wet and manufactured their first travel trailers. Then in 1966, Winnebago launched its first line of Winnebago motor homes, a 19-foot model that included everything a family could ask for when making a cross-country journey. Since then, Winnebago has led the way in motorhome technology, safety, design, and so much more.

Over the past 50 years, the Winnebago name has gradually incorporated itself into part of our every day vernacular. Just like Kleenex® and Huggies® have become a universal name for what they really are, tissues and diapers; Winnebago has taken on that persona. From way back when to present, people automatically refer to their motorhome as a Winnebago motorhome, even if they didn't own a Winnebago! Before looking at the 2011 lineup, take a moment to look into the past and see how far the Winnebago motor home line has come.

What Do Quality, Safety and Innovation Have in Common? Winnebago Recreational Vehicles.

Have you ever heard the saying, "If you want something done right, you've got to do It yourself"? It's fair to say that the folks in charge of Winnebago recreational vehicle design have. To further improve the quality of Winnebago RVs, the company began to manufacture its own furniture as well as other important components specifically for its travel trailers. And by 1963, the Thermo-Panel® wall construction process was developed. The Thermo-Panel® provides a strong, yet lightweight and well-insulated sidewall in any Winnebago RV it's installed in.

By 1966, Winnebago put its innovative energies to the test by utilizing an assembly line to build its first line of motor home components and vehicles. This process enabled Winnebago to save production time and money, which explains why even in the ‘60s a Winnebago motor home could be sold for half the price of the competitions' models. These are two perfect examples of how Winnebago was ahead of its time. This should come as no surprise, since Winnebago motor homes has maintained its stance as a leading and award-winning motor home manufacturer.

Awards and the Winnebago Motorhome Family

The Recreation Vehicle Dealer Association annually rates RV manufacturers and awards its Quality Circle Award to manufacturers who provide exceptional products, service and support. Winnebago motorhomes have received this award every year since the award's inception. It's no coincidence that Winnebago continually wins this award, just look at the evolution of its lineup.
