Lazydays® RV Super Center and Founder Don Wallace donate $100,000 towards building new Armwood High School Field House

Two-time football state champs and athletic department to benefit from the generosity of two local foundations

SEFFNER, Fla. – Armwood High School announced today that the Don & Erika Wallace Family Foundation (Foundation) and Lazydays® RV SuperCenter® (Lazydays) have pledged $50,000 each to the Armwood High School Hawk’s Nest Capital Campaign (Campaign). The combined $100,000 in donations will go towards a planned $1.2 million, 15,000 sq. ft. field house and training facilities. In 2003, the Armwood Hawks Football team became the first public high school in Hillsborough County to win a state championship in 34 years! In 2004, they became the first public high school to win back-to-back state championship titles by bringing the state trophy home to Hillsborough County again! In 2005, again they went to the state finals and came extremely close to bringing the trophy home for a third time.

“We are committed to completing this much needed project, and these two donations are going to help make it happen,” says Harold Hickman, Chairman of the Hawk’s Nest Capital Campaign.

The field house athletic facilities proposed by the campaign will be 15,000 sq. ft., cost $1.2 million, and will be built on the importance of physical conditioning and the values of discipline, respect and teamwork. It will include facilities such as a weight room large enough to ensure the safety of the athletes who use it's heavy training equipment, trainer's room for rehabilitation and therapy, a locker room with showers, meeting rooms, indoor facilities for girl's flag football, indoor area for cheerleading practices, and much more.

Currently, the Armwood facilities are inadequate by most football athletic program standards with the weight room being a small converted classroom not large enough for all the team to work out at the same time, lockers and showers are shared with the physical education classes and there is no designated meeting area space.

We are proud to help make a field house possible for the talented student athletes at Armwood High School. We hope that these new facilities will enhance their training experience so they can continue to bring more state championship trophies to Hillsborough County,” says Don Wallace.

A room in the field house will be named for the Foundation and a sizable plaque will bear its name at the “MVP” giving level.

“We are thrilled to be a part of what is sure to become a winning tradition at Armwood High School,” says John Horton, CEO of Seffner-based Lazydays.

Lazydays’ donation will be made in two installments of $25,000 to total a $50,000 donation. A room on the field house will also be named for Lazydays® and a plaque will bear their name in appreciation.

About the Armwood Hawks Nest Capital Campaign: Earlier this year, parents and other supporters of the Armwood High School Football team committed to build an athletic facility that matches the championship level of the athletes and coaches. With all their successes, the Hawks have had to do it the hard way---with sub-standard training facilities. Yet, over 100 players have been able to continue their education with college football scholarships due to Coach Callahan and his staff's training programs. The Hawks Nest Capital Campaign is a committee of the Armwood High School Athletic Booster Club, Inc., which is a tax exempt organization under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).

About the Don & Erika Wallace Foundation: The Don & Erika Wallace Family Foundation was established nine years ago by Lazydays® Founder & chairman Don Wallace and his wife, Erika. Their philanthropic impact on the community has been widespread with dozens of local non-profit organizations, large and small. Don and Erika Wallace have been huge supporters of the arts, health care and children at risk.

About Lazydays: Lazydays® was founded in 1976 in Tampa, Florida and relocated in May 1996 to a much larger site in Seffner, Florida, which is 10 miles east of downtown Tampa. The dealership is located on 126 acres with an 86,600 sq. ft. main building, 1,200 RV display sites, 273 service bays and 300 RV campsites. Lazydays’ expansive complex requires a fleet of 150 golf carts to move both customers and employees throughout the property. Additionally, the dealership serves over 360,000 meals annually to its customers, prospects and employees. The site has a 40,000 sq. ft. Camping World store, a Cracker Barrel restaurant and a Flying J RV Travel Plaza.
